Okay, I’m not a fan, but September 2003 has already seen the passing of Warren Zevon, Johnny Cash and John Ritter. Now another icon from my youth is relegated to the history books –
Robert Palmer has died of a heart attack, aged 54. Too young to go.

A tip for everyone out there. While they make great sandals, Birkenstocks are NOT appropriate footwear for dancing.

I went out on Saturday night expecting to wander from restaurant to bar to dessert bar or coffee bar or something similar. Instead we wound up at the Funhaus/Zen Lounge (in Toronto) where VNV Nation was on site to show a 35 minute preview edit of their forthcoming Pastperfect DVD and spin some tunes. I didn’t even know this was happening (I really should visit Dark Toronto more often) but am I ever glad we went. The music was amazing and the crowd was just as great. We danced for a few hours … me in sandals. By the time I left I was amazed my feet weren’t bleeding. Still, it was worth it. I haven’t had such a great night in months.

I went to see Delerium last night, and WOW what an amazing show. This tour featured the wonderful and ethereal voice of Kristy Thirsk (only one of my favourite singers, ever) and Shelley Harland. The show was short, but I wasn’t at all disappointed. They played a lot of stuff off the new album (“Chimera”), and all the crowd favourites (“Flowers Become Screens”, “Silence”, “Innocente” etc.). I don’t get to see nearly enough live music, but if I have to wait as long as I did between Spearhead and Delerium the quality of the shows makes up for it. A little. :)

Country legend Johnny Cash passed away yesterday. This makes me very sad, indeed. Read some of the tributes from other musicians, critics, and radio folk.

Okay, sure, I’ve not really been watching hockey in the past couple of years, but I’m still saddened by news that Doug Gilmour has retired. I’d really hoped he’d play at least one full season (again) in Toronto before calling it quits (again). Well, >clink<, here’s to a great career, Dougie, it’s been fun watching you.
